The morning will consist of an On the Busses Challenge, the short wheel base and long overhang takes a bit of getting used to, especially when manoeuvring into coned garages, pulling out of T-junctions, and circumnavigating roundabouts. You will be amazed at how you have to overhang junctions and corners to get round. The semi automatic gear box is relatively easy to use - in a fashion - but not so easy to do properly and that's how we want it done! Surprisingly good fun and a must for ‘bus nuts’. A great fun laugh with loads of spectators in the Bus all the time.
The afternoon will be the fun and wet Fire Fighters Challenge driving the fire appliance with blue lights and extinguish fires in buildings or vehicles using the hoses. It's always quite surprising how big these amazing vehicles are when you get up close! Experienced instructors and fire fighters will teach you how to drive and how to work the hoses to put out the fires. We use the same scenario as used for training real fire fighters. You will manoeuvre either a 13 ton Dennis RS or Scania 82m Fire appliance around a specially laid out course including top gear main roads, roundabouts, T- junctions, slaloms and garages. To make things as realistic as possible the vehicle will be carrying a full equipment load and carrying 2 tonnes of water, plenty to go at with the hose! You will also put out a fire in either a building or a vehicle! You will share the day with up to 4 other drivers, all taking turns behind the wheels for different sections of the day. The day is not run as a competition, but there are lots of different sections and skills that are taught and can be put into practise.
